Malaria medicines

The types of anti-malarial medications prescribed will depend on the area you visit. According to the CDC, travelers to South America, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Asia, and the South Pacific should take one of the following malaria pills: mefloquine, doxycycline, chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, or Malarone. Malaria signs and symptoms typically begin within a few weeks after a bite from an infected mosquito. However, some types of malaria parasites can lie dormant in your body for months, or even years.
If you live in or intend to travel to any country where Malaria is a threat it is vital that you are aware of how to avoid exposure and which treatments are available to your prior to your journey. Failure to prepare yourself is quite simply asking for trouble as Malaria can cause serious illness at best and is otherwise fatal.
